Launching the kite is one of the first skills you need to learn, this will be a useful skill in and out of the water and can be used to help others launch their kites. This lesson will teach you how to hold the kite while walking, help someone launch the kite from land and launch the kite from the water.

Step 1: Holding the Kite While Walking
Lay the kite on the beach with the leading edge facing upwind and the trailing edge facing downwind.
Grab the kite by the leading edge with one hand and the bar with the other hand.
Walk towards the kite while pulling the bar towards you to keep the kite stable and prevent it from flipping over.
Once you reach the kite, secure it by placing sand on the trailing edge to prevent it from flying away.
Step 2: Helping Someone Launch the Kite from Land
Ask the person to lay the kite on the beach with the leading edge facing upwind and the trailing edge facing downwind.
Hold the kite by the leading edge with one hand and the bar with the other hand.
Walk towards the kite while pulling the bar towards you to keep the kite stable and prevent it from flipping over.
Once you reach the kite, ask the person to attach the lines to the kite and bar.
Hold the kite with one hand and pull the bar towards you with the other hand to launch the kite.
Release the kite once it is in the air and let the person take control of the kite.
Step 3: Launching the Kite from the Water
Swim out to a safe depth with the kite and bar.
Hold the kite by the leading edge with one hand and the bar with the other hand.
Depower the kite by pulling the bar towards you.
Once you are ready to launch, pull the bar away from you to generate power and launch the kite.
Keep the kite stable and prevent it from crashing by adjusting the bar and lines as necessary.
By following these steps, you should be able to launch the kite from land or water safely and effectively. Remember to always prioritise safety and never launch the kite in conditions beyond your skill level.
