During this lesson I will be using many terms relating to parts of the kite so here are a few important ones to learn.

  1. Leading Edge: The leading edge is the front edge of the kite. It's a large inflatable tube that holds the air and gives the kite its shape. The leading edge also helps with relaunching the kite if it falls into the water. It's typically made of durable materials like ripstop nylon and reinforced with sturdy stitching.

  2. Trailing Edge: The trailing edge is the back edge of the kite. It's the opposite of the leading edge and helps to control the kite's speed and power. The trailing edge is also where the kite's bridle lines are attached.

  3. Bridles: The bridles are the lines that attach to the kite and help to keep it balanced in the air. They're usually colored red, blue, and white, and are connected to the kite at multiple points along the leading edge and the trailing edge. The bridles are responsible for controlling the kite's angle of attack, which affects its speed and power. The length and position of the bridles can be adjusted to fine-tune the kite's performance.

  4. Canopy: The canopy is the main body of the kite, which is made of lightweight, ripstop nylon fabric. The canopy is responsible for generating lift and power as the wind passes over it. The shape and design of the canopy can vary depending on the type of kite and the desired performance characteristics.

  5. Struts: Struts are inflatable tubes that are attached to the canopy to provide structure and stability. They run perpendicular to the leading edge and are typically made of the same material as the leading edge.

  6. Bladders: Bladders are inflatable tubes that run inside the leading edge and struts to give the kite its shape. They're typically made of thin, flexible plastic and are filled with air using a pump. Bladders can be prone to punctures and leaks, so it's important to handle them carefully and keep them properly inflated.
